Ryan and Laura wed at Edwards

Posted on March 17, 2015 by Eddie & Ed | 0 comments

It was a privilege to host lovely Ryan Bahri and Laura Willis on their wedding day, Saturday the 14th March. A love of aeroplanes brought them together and so also drew them to Matilda, and using our property as their venue of choice.

Laura and Ryan

The weather up to the day had been great, couldn't have asked for better than a warm day with blue skies, but Cyclone Olwyn had other ideas. It started raining on Friday night, so plans from the rehearsal earlier in the day, of having a simple ceremony under the tree had to be revised.

Wonderland Tents and Events came to the rescue with a perfect little marquee so the ceremony could go ahead under cover. This was decorated with the originally planned festoon lighting, which gave a warm glow to an otherwise grey day.

The finishing touches were added; a leather chesterfield setting grandly filled one end of the marquee with a vintage arch provided by Cape of Love at the other. Mismatched wooden chairs lined each side of aisle with a delicate bouquet of flowers in a jar tied to each one. Beautiful textures, shapes and colours were expressed by these bunches, consisting of white and red roses, proteas, gum leaves and fern fronds. Bouquets were also placed in a chandelier hanging from the arch, and on the Janome sewing table, converted to a signing table. For such a simple setting, it was gorgeous and very welcoming.

Bling Event Studio styled our Hangar, giving it a minimalist but warm rustic feel, using wine barrels surrounded by stools and leather ottomans for casual seating. Soft golden lighting was added by three chandeliers as well as strategically placed candle-lit lanterns. Extra light was added by Laura and Ryan's personal touch of large illuminated letters sitting astride three barrels.

The service was officiated by Diane Moore from The Owl and The Pussycat Celebrations, who made everyone feel like they were in the company of an old friend, and collectively that they were reminiscing about good times.

Everything about this wedding exuded warmth, the persistent drizzling rain outside soon forgotten. Although; an old superstition apparently says that rain on your Wedding Day means oodles of good luck - both a life-giving blessing and a life together started with a clean slate.

The annual Great White Top 100 tasting for The West Australian’s FRESH saw more than 450 white wines tasted from around Australia, with an “exceptional and wide range of wines”.

Our newly released 2013 Edwards SSB made the cut in the $20 -$25 category, with the following review;

Edwards Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2013

A light, fragrant example of this blend from what is one of the best vineyards in Margaret River. Minerally and crunchy, with the lively fresh citrus tang a striking feature on the palate. Lovely zingy mouth feel. Aperitif style ~ 92-100 - Ray Jordan.

Friendly Competition

Posted on August 02, 2013 by Eddie & Ed | 0 comments

It keeps things interesting around here and improves productivity... especially after the hard slog of vintage. Well, that’s our story and we’re sticking to it. Any excuse for some gratutious surfing shots! The Post Vintage Inter-Winery Surf competition was a great day and thoroughly enjoyed by all who had the chance to compete.

Some wineries who were still harvesting or pressing fruit had their team surfing relay style - tag and either launching into the waves or jogging up the beach to head back to the winery. In those instances, there were longing looks cast back at the ocean. Everyone was keen.

Teams of at least four are formed with each surfer having a 3 wave ‘turn’ before swapping with a team mate. Each wave is scored then an average of all waves is calculated. The team with the highest scored averages wins, and this year the honour went to Howard Park. In second place were Streicker Wines with Voyager Estate taking out third. Although our team didn’t place, they were all champions who did us proud - and Tim (AKA ‘Byrnesy’) also won the chance to treat his better half to a delicious dinner at Voyager Estate for ‘Best Re-entry’ (manouver). So next time you enjoy a bottle of wine from one of our Margaret River producers, remember that it also embodies the spirit of things fought for and hard won.

Christo, Byrnesy and Finno pictured respectively. All that training paid off :-)

Drift to the movies & see a great flick today!

Posted on May 08, 2013 by Eddie & Ed | 0 comments

Or rather, high-tail it! See below for an email recently received by Tim Duffy, Producer from World Wide Mind films. Help keep Aussie movies in the lime light... Find a session near you here...

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to thank all those who went out and saw Drift this weekend. There's lots of great buzz around the film which is really exciting.

That said, while our weekend Box Office was pretty good for an Aussie film, in reality we're still getting hammered by the much bigger US films.

For instance, "My Big Wedding", which has been universally panned, beat us in every cinema thanks to their massive ad spend. On one review show on the weekend, they got one star and we got five, and we still got beaten by them!

In contrast here are some of the reviews we've got so far:

 - "Best Aussie film since The Castle. 5 stars" - Jason Davis, Weekend Sunrise Channel 7

 - "Four Stars" - David & Margaret, At The Movies

 - "I had a ball. It's funny and truthful... and the surfing takes your breath away. Four Stars" Paul Byrnes, Sydney Morning Herald

 - "Great story, great cast. 5 stars" Weekend Sunrise Channel 7

 - "So evocative of a time and place and so well acted. Four Stars" - David Stratton, The Australian

 - "Exquisitely shot and warmly crafted" - Erin Free, FilmInk

 - "Thrilling... dramatically compelling" Time Out Magazine

 - "Pollard and Samuel are excellent" - David Stratton, The Australian

 - "The best surfing I've seen in a feature film" - Stu Nettle, Swellnet

 - "Drift is that rare thing: an Australian surf film with not just spectacular wave action but an engaging story" - Garry Maddox, Sydney Morning Herald

So to those of you who haven't had a chance to see it yet, we have until this Thursday to turn it around, and the only way we can do it is through word of mouth and bums on seats. So please, get onto your nearest and dearest to see the film to prove to local cinema chains that Aussies really do like good Aussie films. Feel free to forward this email if it's easier. Anything to cut through the overwhelming ad campaign of Iron Man and co :)

If it doesn't happen by this Thursday they'll cut our screen numbers and we'll disappear from view like every other Aussie film. It's that simple.

Thanks for your support.
