Surprisingly, this sunburnt country of ours can give us access to one of the best White Christmases in the world, particularly if you are lucky enough to live near one of our sprawling white beaches, or if you know where to get some of the best white wine in the country.
A slight change of perspective; trading the warmth of a winter hearth and being snowed in, with the warmth of a summer’s day and the freedom of the outdoors. Instead of building a snowman with the family – get creative with a sandcastle…
…and white wine instead of egg nog. Relax with a refreshing glass of chilled Edwards SSB, or one of your other favourite Edwards’ whites. We have all of them in a special Christmas 12 pack for only $175.00:
3 bottles of cheeky Edwards Biggles Blend
3 bottles of crisp Edwards Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
3 bottles of elegant Edwards Chardonnay
and 3 bottles of fruity Tigers Tale Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
all for only $175 – saving over 30%
If however you’re a die-hard reds fan, you can also get a six pack of our 3 reds, two of each for the Member’s Price of $115.00 for the pack.
Want to mix and match? No problemo, our friendly staff will give you a 20% discount off wine purchases when you ask for the Christmas special. All you need to do is drop in to Cellar Door, give us a call or flick us an email.
Ho Ho Ho…
Yep, you guessed it. From all directions we’re reminded of the upcoming silly season and the countdown has begun. Surprisingly, I’m NOT going to spruik what a great gift wine makes, particularly Edwards Wines…well not right at this moment anyway.
Every year some lucky kiddos around Australia, have parents who are somehow convinced to give them a puppy or a kitten as a gift for Christmas. Unfortunately a month or two later when these cute little bundles of fur are still not toilet trained, or have chewed through all the family’s shoes and used the furniture as scratching posts, they’re sometimes ‘disposed’ of. Thankfully some of the unwanted animals end up here where they receive lots of TLC.
But did you know that the RSPCA not only rescue unwanted and abused animals, but also provide all the support you need to not only train your animal, but to provide the best care for it so that you and the family footware will be safe? Little animal caretakers can learn to take more responsibility for their pets by becoming members of a fun and interactive club called Project Animal Welfare. There are also links to dog training and training tips for managing a canine with a big personality.
So this year if you’re contemplating giving a pet for a gift, instead of heading to your local pet store, consider spending the next few weeks perusing all the RSPCA has to offer first, so that you know how best to care for your new furry family member for life. Then head out there for a visit and you’re bound to find a new little friend that melts your heart.
Ever wondered what some of the top restaurants serve with our wine? At a recent Food & Wine Matching hosted by The Cape Wine Bar, with menu created by Leon Edwards (yes, another one, no relation…), the following delicious dishes were served:
Matched with our 2009 Tigers Tale Sauvignon Blanc Semillon – Seafood Trio of Scallop, Crab & Oyster (and you’re not seeing things… the plating is an impressionistic representation of Matilda the tiger moth in flight, & the port-of-calls on the map).
To bring out the best in our 2008 Edwards Chardonnay, a Warm Marron Salad with Olives & Spiced Oil was served.
A delicious Mushroom & Baby Caper Tart, Caramelized Jerusalem Artichokes, Watercress; was served with our 2009 Tigers Tale Cabernet Merlot.
To finish the night, Le Caviste with Melba Toast was matched with an aged 2001 Edwards Cabernet from the Eddy’s personal cellar (aka Museum). Does anyone remember the label prior to 2006?
So if you’re looking for some inspiration, or “the perfect place to unwind after a busy day…” look no further than The Cape Wine Bar.

For the month of September, lovers of Edwards Wines will be helping us help The Leukaemia Foundation. For every bottle of our Edwards brand* of wine purchased, we will donate $1.00 to the special fundraising drive run by the Foundation; Light The Night. Their goal this year is $2 million Australia wide, “to improve the quality of life for patients and their families here and now and give hope for a brighter future by funding the work of Australia’s best researchers.”
Head over to their website to see our team page…
* includes wines purchased with the member’s discount or regular case discounts, but excludes wines on sale, BCE & Tigers Tale wines.
The first of our New Release Tastings, this one held at Eleven Kitchen & Cellar in Sydney NSW, has been a hit with members. Thank you to everyone who supported it, Mike “had a ball” and looks forward to future tastings…we’ll turn him into a social butterfly yet!
One of our member couples, Martin & Sue sent the following feedback via email today: “Sue and I wish to thank you very much for the excellent wine tasting evening at Eleven. Your initiative of bringing together Edwards wine club members to sample your wines in Sydney in a quality restaurant/location demonstrates the level of passion and confidence you have in your product and brands.”
Hopefully when Mike lands Westside again he’ll have some happy snaps to share. Victorian Members will enjoy a tasting with Christo early September, and Queensland and Perth are on the drawing board as we speak.
Hasta la vista…
